I visited the RAF Museum at Hendon, North London recently and was pleased to see that their Fairey Battle is displayed in ASSF colours from 1939/40. It is a fine tribute to all the airmen and soldiers of the ASSF. I now know exactly what the planes would have looked like on the airfield that my Great Uncle and fellow Territorials defended. It was also a reminder of why this plane proved to be so vulnerable against the Luftwaffe in 1940.
If you get a chance you should make a visit to the RAF Museum at Hendon to see the Battle in all its glory and remember the men of the ASSF. It is 1 of only 3 left in the world.
